Do It Yourself: Make Angel Eyes LED Light Bulb Rings
LED lights not only appear to be cool, they're also earth-friendly, beneficial, and keep going longer than most of the bulbs in the market. Be able to make angel eye rings for your automobile headlights choosing LED light bulbs.
Difficulty: Moderate. You'll have to use a soldering gun, drill and Draper tools or other power tools for this undertaking. Seek help if this is the first time you're dealing with these instruments.
You will need: LED light bulbs (2x 3.6 v, 20mA), resistor (270 ohms), little blind rod (aluminum replacement rod), 24-gauge stranded line, solder gun and solder, Dremel tool with cut-off wheel attachment, drill and drill bit #150, pliers for trimming wires, reflective tape, translucent tape/painter's tape, aluminum foil, heat shrink tubing, jar cover (same diameter as the ring), scissors, 12 V adjusted power supply, oven.
Mold the Ring
First of all, calculate the diameter of your head-lights. We'll be using a 4-inch diameter ring for this course. After determining, get a little blind rod. One mini rod creates two rings. For a 4" diameter light source, the rod ought to be 12.5" long (use this equation: Length = 3.14 x diameter). Add on about 2 extra inches to have handles. Cut the rod using Ryobi tool with a cut-off wheel attachment.
To promote ring brightness, we must make small cuts along the plane (back) side of the ring. These types of cuts will refract illumination toward the front section for greater visibility. Use the Dremel apparatus to make cuts 1.5 mm apart from others. Continue having cuts until you reach the other side of the ring.
Drill the Hole
We're now able to join the LED light bulbs. Drill a hole on each end of the rod to go with a LED light bulb inside. Work with drill bit #150, and set to 6000 RPM. To keep the rod from melting, draw out the bit as you go to let it cool. Keep on doing this until you make a LED light bulb-sized hole. The LED light bulb really needs to securely fit.
Take out the LED light bulb and make the hole way more translucent by putting a small amount of clear nail polish inside the hole. This supplies more light to go through. Wait a little for the polish to dry before re-inserting the LED bulb. Try the bulb with a 12 V handled power supply.
To trap the LED light and make it obvious even during the day, use aluminum foil or even reflective tape. Cover the foil all around the uncut portion of the ring and protect with heat shrink tubing. Heat the tubing set. Find the ring on reflective tape and cut out. Take out and then glue the tape on the flip side of the ring.
Wire the LED lighting fixtures
Work with a resistor (270 ohms). Bind with electrical wire the two LED light bulbs in a series connection by attaching the negative leg of one LED bulb securely to the positive leg of the other LED bulb. Strip one end of a 24-gauge twine and wrap it around the negative leg of the first LED bulb. Attach into place using soldering gun. Take off the other end of the same twine and wrap it throughout the positive terminal of the second LED. Solder straight to place.
Shorten a second wire and cover it around the negative terminal of the next LED, and solder all together. Bring the end of the second wire back to the other end of the ring. Tape the two wiring together on the opposite side of the ring with painter's blue tape. Take off the LED bulb terminal legs. So you have a single positive then single negative terminal on one side of the circle. Check it out by means of a power supply.
